Parts Development Buyer Assistant Manager – Powertrain Transmission

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Understand program sourcing and key milestone in support of launch.
  • Identify potential suppliers, analyze capabilities, determine price, and select suppliers with Engineering and/or other relevant teams.
  • Select, develop, and manage supply base of assigned commodities by:
    – Preparing and owning RFI’s, RFP’s and RFQ’s for multi-year full production volume
    – Preparing bid packages, performing bidder conference, analyzing, evaluating proposals, negotiating with, and recommending suppliers, and administering resulting contracts
    – Negotiating long term agreements and maintaining best-in-class pricing
    – Leading cost reduction activities
  • Develop all assigned commodities with sourced supplier meeting all required specification and timing.
  • Evaluate and provide guidance on final selection of suppliers. Assess supplier core competencies and cost competitiveness using HKMC and industry “should-cost” models.
  • Direct, manage and guide suppliers from “cradle to grave” through HMG’s established Parts Development process and activities.
  • Develop and achieve target quality level at each milestone from development phase leading to mass production and establish improvement plans/countermeasures for problematic parts/suppliers or any relevant issues that impact Quality and Delivery.
  • Drive flawless launches at assigned supplier sites, collaborating with cross functional teams through adherence to ISIR (PPAP), proactively detecting and promptly responding to any significant issues related to Quality, Cost, and Delivery.
  • Hold effective working-level meetings with suppliers/partners for fast issue closure and relationship development.
  • Continuously negotiate with suppliers for the best-in-class piece price and tooling cost to achieve target vehicle cost.
  • Develop purchasing strategies with Engineering, Quality, Production, and other relevant teams.
  • Monitor and support preventing disruptions in supply chain to avoid impact to HMGMA.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering (R&D), Quality, and Production Planners.
  • Plan, organize and disseminate information related to production/potential suppliers.
  • Maintain up-to-date supply base information database.
  • Hire, develop, train, and manage a number of Buyers (Specialists).

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Supply Chain, Finance or Accounting or related field from accredited university required.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites, especially Excel and PowerPoint, required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related job experience required. 
  • Years of experience from Automotive industry in Purchasing, APQP, PPAP, Supplier Development/Engineering, Launch, Program Management, or related fields strongly preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing process including, but not limited to, injection molding, press, stamping, die casting, welding, assembly, paint, chroming and other surface treatments, foaming, cut & sew, SMC, extrusion, SMT, various raw materials, etc.  Experience with Engines and Transmissions highly preferred. 
  • Experience from OEM or major commodity suppliers strongly preferred.
  • Experience in understanding, analyzing, and breaking down piece price.
  • Bilingual preferred – Ability to read, write, and speak any two combinations of English, Korean, and/or Spanish fluently.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Coordinating & Coaching TM’s activities as a 1st line supervisor in GA maintenance to meet section’s goals (PM / Down Time / Skill Level).
  • Need to follow HMGMA shift rotation plan based on HMGMA sales & production plan (3shift or 4crews + 2shift rotation including holidays, final rotation TBD).
  • Carry out and report on status of assigned tasks at beginning, during and conclusion (Trouble shooting, PM activities and all other requests from superiors).
  • Need full support for urgent requests regarding equipment issues (Night, Weekends, Holidays). 
  • Be sure to comply with Safety & Environmental guidelines while performing any maintenance activities.
  • Support all levels of management to encourage good teamwork. (Meeting, Events, Collaboration).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by department management as needed, including outside of regular daily work scope.
  • Manage daily PM activities based on PM system (Manpower, Plan-Results, PM Quality) to maintain stable equipment operation condition in each shop.
  • Manage team training and development.
  • Breakdown management support and reporting to improve shop MTTR/MTBF performance.
  • Coordinate/Approve/Report improvement idea from TMs to resolve any issue.   
  • Maintain spare parts / team center / training room.
  • Need good communication with AM to supervise and control conflicts in the organization and support any team member issues.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:
  • Certificate, Diploma, or Associate Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment (i.e., Certified Apprenticeship, etc.).
  • More than 6 years maintenance career in automated industry.
  • Experience in managing more than 8 team members.
  • Electrical & Mechanical trouble shooting experience (PLC, Power circuit, inverter & motors).
  • Stamping Maintenance career in major automotive manufacturers.
  • Robot & Hydraulic system maintenance experience (Fanuc robots).
  • Stamping system maintenance experience (500 tons or above).
  • Servo Tandem Press Experience with NC Cushion.
  • Rockwell PLC and HMI programming/troubleshooting.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Maintain quality test equipment at the Vehicle Processing Center (VPC).  
  • Support in-line team with recommended actions and drive quality improvement through coordination, monitoring, and performing specialize technical process/ related functions directly related to completed vehicle inspection.  
  • Facilitate, lead and drive improvement for First Time through (FTT) concerns, repetitive concerns, and field issues. 
  • Recommend actions and drive quality improvement through collection, analysis, and reporting of quality and equipment issues.  
  • Analyze internal and external quality indicators and determine quality trends to drive continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, and Productivity metrics.
  • Research and investigate quality issues to determine root cause.  
  • Manage execution of HMGMA process and vehicle evaluation activities.  
  • Execute and implement quality inspection and improvement activities of mass-produced vehicles and conducting activities to identify new vehicle projects analysis of completed vehicle to ensure its high quality and conformity to international standards. 
  • Lead the team activities, including inspection card specification, format, equipment, etc. 
  • Maintain inspection card/ systems, and equipment (printers/scanners etc.)  
  • Establish/improve inspection methods and prevent leakage/ flow out post-processes. 
  • Lead development of inspection standards and criteria for Line Inspection to use.

  • Coordinate In-line Process evaluation activities for a sound and secure inspection system for a defect free vehicle to our customers.
  • Coordinate Process workstation evaluation – validate Production/inspection activities for safety & critical check points. 
  • Lead analysis of the cause of the vehicle problem, improvement activities with all shop teams, audit, preparation, and implementation of quality meetings.
  • Analyze inspection data and findings, communicate finding, and drive problem resolution and improvement in new model and current models. 
  • Facilitate, recommend actions, and drive improvement through the quality and production departments for completed vehicle quality and continuous improvement activities. 
  • Quality facility/equipment management, investment cost execution/ management, supplementary investment establishment. 
  • Preparation, consultation, and coordination of external events.
  • Participate in new vehicle projects (preparation for inspection, establishment of quality securing plan, and response to evaluation).
  • Validate pilot build quality and audit / validate new model critical customer quality concerns.
